The foodstorage container, which has a wide range of applications, comes as a great boon for food preservation. It's very convenient for us to put ingredients, uneaten food and self-prepared meals in the food container. However, with an enclosed design, it is easy to leave an unpleasant smell after being used for a period of time or held some smelly food like garlic and onions. And the odor may influence people's spirits and appetites. Let me introduce some good ways to get rid of that smell in storage containers to you.
Tea
Tea owns the function of absorbing odors. We can pour the overnight or stale tea into the container and shake it up and down with the lid on, or directly soak the tea and the container in warm water to remove the inner smell. Attention: do not soak it too long, otherwise it's possible to be stained.
Coffee Grounds
Coffee grounds can be considered as a kind of natural deodorant with their own fragrant smell and the function of absorbing moisture and odors. We can try to sprinkle coffee grounds in the canister and gently rub each corner with our fingers before rinsing it thoroughly.
Baking Soda
We can apply baking soda with a sponge brush to wash the storage container. Or prepare some warm water and a few spoons of soda and pour the mixture into the container.
Lemon and White Vinegar
Lemon contains citric acid with a strong bactericidal effect, which is beneficial to food sanitation. Cut a couple of slices of lemon and place them in the storage canister which will have the nice scent of lemon after being soaked in warm water. Also, white vinegar helps to freshen up even though it brings the acrid vinegary odor to the canister at first.
There are many other methods to get rid of unpleasant smells in the canister, and the effect will be better if we apply warm water. In addition, it is recommended to place the washed canister under the sun to kill germs and reduce odors.
