Bread is a kind of baked food made from wheat flour through a series of processes. Freshly baked bread is attractive and delicious, satisfying your demand for nutrition and good taste. However, whether you make your own bread or buy it from a store, it's not recommended to make or buy too much at once. Only after eating it in a short period of time can you retain the original and freshest flavor and texture of the bread.
The starch in the bread begins to age from the moment bread comes out of the oven. In general, the best eat-up freshness date is 1-3 days since bread is made. And the taste becomes worse and the possibility of spoilage increases with time. The aging of bread mainly comes into the following. First, it tastes dry and hard rather than soft. Second, small mildew spots will occur on the surface and spread to the whole bread gradually. Third, the stuffing in the bread will spoil first in the preservation. So, how to properly keep bread fresh in order to prevent the bread from losing taste and being stale?
1. Store Bread at Room Temperature.
It is better for fresh bread to be sealed and stored at room temperature with low humidity in the environment. Please finish eating the bread within two days or at most four days for some kinds of bread. And be sure to seal it. Bread becoming dry can be sprayed with a little water and then baked in the oven.
2. Freeze Your Bread.
This is the best way to preserve because the moisture in the bread is frozen, so try to freeze your bread when it's still fresh. If the bread is too big to be eaten all at once, you had better slice it up and place it into the sealed bag before putting the bread into the freezer. When you need to eat, take the bread out and defrost in advance, and then put it in the oven.
3. Keep in the Refrigerator.
Bread with stuffing (e.g. fruit, cream, meat, vegetable) is advised to be placed in the refrigerator for 1 day only. However, this method is not recommended because the dehydration speed of the bread would be faster than that at normal temperature.
4. Tips for Different Types of Bread.
· Baguettes have very little moisture and taste best within 8 hours of being baked. It is suggested to store it at room temperature for no more than one day and seal it in the paper bag. The rest of the baguettes you haven't eaten out in the shelf life can be cut and packed in a sealed bag and preserved in the freezer. It is all right to thaw and bake again before eating.
· Croissant is high in fat, with the smell of butter and the crumbly texture being highlighted when it is eaten hot. And it's better to be eaten that day. If you want to have it on the next day, you can bake the croissant in the oven at 180℃ for 1-2 minutes beforehand to restore its taste.
· Sandwich has a short shelf life. And the stuffing in the bread like vegetables and meat are highly perishable, so it needs to be covered with plastic film, preserved in the refrigerator and used as soon as possible.
· Toast needs to be placed in a sealed bag or other common bags and stored in cool and dry places. If you cannot finish eating in 2-3 days, slice it up and wrap it separately according to the amount you eat every day. Leave pieces of bread on the counter and put the rest in the freezer.
